You will not be able to rent or return a car in Florence. In fact, you will find it difficult to drive or park in Florence at all. You have to pay to park in private lots in the town center – parking elsewhere is illegal. It is best to make your trip to Florence by some other means!

Train Travel to Florence, Italy


 


Stazione Santa Maria Novella

This is the main train station in/around Florence. It’s located at most 15-minutes (average walking time) from the furthest major attractions in Florence. Florence is reachable by train from many major areas of Italy and is also reachable from the airport. You can even check your bags and get a boarding pass for the train from the airport. Trains leave the airport for Florence an average of twice per hour.

Galileo Galilei Airport

This airport is in Pisa and is the closest International airport to Florence, approximately 60 miles away. There are no direct flights to Pisa from the U.S., but connections can be made in most of the major European cities. From Pisa you can go to Florence by train, bus, rental car or by small commuter plane.

Amerigo Vespucci Airport

This is the small (non-international) airport in Florence. It is recently expanded and many European Airlines now have flights into Florence.
